Halloween fireballs

Sheathed in yellow casings, the bright orange berries of this Oriental bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus) emerge to form mini pumpkin patches to decorate the autumn woods. This vine was growing along the edge of Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown, NJ.

Polychromatic planetoids

This Porcelain berry vine (Ampelopsis brevipedunculata) creates a multicolored microgalaxy all its own, with shiny tinted orbs suspended in space. These were growing along the marshy area of the park.

Tangled up in pink

Not sure what the real story is here, but this small punky willow with spiky green dos seems to be literally captivated by its more elegant (if clinging) pink-blossomed companion.
