Swallowtailgating

As in previous years, several pairs of Barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) have been nesting under the eaves of some of the park maintenance buildings. This brood looked just about ready to fledge but still wanted to be fed.

Bird’s nest troupe

A few days ago, the barn swallow chicks were still in the nest. Looking more like their parents at this point, at least four were jammed into their ever shrinking hideaway. Today, though, nobody was home.
