The jagged edge

Thin, icy knives jabbing out from the sides sliced into the water that was still running through the middle of a creek.

Floe chart

Sparkling bits of ice in and alongside a narrow creek in the woods make the swirling water look slow and syrupy. It should regain some vitality over the next few days, though, as the area warms to above freezing.

Soggy Bottom Boy (or Girl)

I may have startled this little guy into the water, since I heard a frog-sized splash not long before taking this. Looks like a northern green frog (Rana clamitans melanota). I like its big ball-bearing eyes and trendy leopard-skin tights.

Creature from the green lagoon

Although not really in a lagoon, this little frog seems quite happy to be floating about in the spring algae of one of the creeks in the park.

Dinnertime for Deer

Five or six deer were grazing along the creek bank yesterday at dusk. A couple are seen here, one of which is reaching for some tasty tidbit on a higher branch.
