Beginning to see the leaf

Although they look more like pink flowers, I think these fleshy lobes along the stem may be the emerging leaves — perhaps those of a Black cherry tree (Prunus serotina).

Beeline to Bloomtown

I was focusing on the bee partaking of one of the cherry blooms near the top left of this branch, then later noticed the other buzzy little chum on his way to join him (or her) in the nectar harvest.

Sun stained glass

Sunday afternoon sun peeked through the colorful leaves of another flowering cherry, outlining the delicate capillaries of each and turning the branch into its own quiet chapel of light.

Skewers, soft & sweet

About a week after the Amanogawa cherry blossoms hung in clusters like spring fruit, they filled out into branches of frilly flower kebabs stabbing at the sky. Bees flew in to enjoy the sweet feast.

Pink Flowering Sunshine

Thought I would post a pretty pink picture to brighten what has been a dismal grey day, at least in New Jersey. Love the name, too: Rosy Cloud Cherry (prunus subhirtella). Sounds like a good song title for Takako Minekawa.
