A cute but deadly hunter, this male American kestrel (Falco sparverius) watched alertly from the top of various short trees around a meadow scanning for tiny food stuffs to fill his lunch cart.

Perched between the water and the woods at Sandy Hook, this smallish falcon may be a Merlin (Falco columbarius).

Mo’ hawk

Looking something like an acrobat on a high wire, this Red-tailed hawk managed to balance its hefty frame on a comparatively skinny tree by using controlled swaying and precision wing adjustments.

In the cat-bird seat

Even from a distance and through a cloudy array of view-blurring branches and twigs, this Great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) was an impressive sight. Its shadowy contour mimicked a large black cat sitting calmly in the treetops.
