Scudderia missile

As it fluttered by, this Bush katydid (genus Scudderia) looked like a whitish bit of fluff floating through the air. After it landed, though, its remarkably leaf-like appearance became clear.

Frosted fern

Darkening and drying up for fall, these fern fronds nonetheless still seemed supple (might be Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum). Shiny with morning dew, they looked like close-up sections of brown frost stretching across a window pane.
