If this Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) hadn’t let out a loud note in time, we might’ve inadvertently stepped on it or its eggs.

Along the edge of a park’s gravel lot, it had made just enough of an indentation in the rocks to place a couple of very well camouflaged eggs (left of bird).
