The nest laid plans

Housing portage

With a beak full of nesting material, this Brown thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) was busy building a spring home.

Its rusty-feather topcoat, speckled underbelly, and piercing yellow eyes provided a striking image in an otherwise drizzy grey landscape.

    Beautiful Capture!

    • Thanks Kenne! I had been trying to get a good picture of a thrasher for a while. I had seen a pair in a different park, but they were always either too far away or too skittish. This one was much better about staying put — probably waiting for us to move on before getting to the actual nest site.

  2. Spring is such a busy time in nature 🙂
