Wait until you see the white ring of their eyes

“Wait until you see
the white ring of their eyes”

Hopping around the dry brown leaves of the nature trail, this smallish bird looked something like a juvenile robin from a side glance.

A better look shows that it’s probably a Hermit thrush (Catharus guttatus), with lighter coloring and a rustier tail.
