Ant-sized escarpment

The branches and twigs of a tree along the wooded path to the library (a sweetgum, I think) are lined with jagged projections of corky outgrowth.

A close-up view reveals a mini diorama landscape of grey cliffsides built up by sedimentary layers of wooden history.
