Bittersweet symphony

Sheathed in yellow casings, the bright orange berries of this Oriental bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus) emerge to form mini pumpkin patches to decorate the autumn woods.

This vine was growing along the edge of Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown, NJ.
