Home of (Gamera) the Brave

Basking is Turtles

The swampy pond patch of the park is home to more turtles than we’ve seen previously. These sunbathers seem to be equally divided between Eastern painted (Chrysemys picta picta) and common snapping (Chelydra serpentina) turtles, with three each.

That prodigious specimen on the far log is also one of the largest we’ve seen there — well over a foot from nose to tail tip.
